Here’s a story about the nomination of Judge John Roberts.
How about Atheists for Christ?
The Los Angeles Times today has a flawed but interesting piece on how atheists are coping with an increasingly red America. According to reporter Gina Piccalo, atheists are feeling besieged by the forces of faith and trying to organize politically. So far the results have been lackluster:
Problem solving
The current issue of The Economist has a report on Muslim terrorists titled “The Enemy Within.” It may not be newsy enough for some GetReligion readers, but the analysis is worth the read.
Department of oops?
Now this is a fine scandal. One Zaki Badawi, head of the Muslim College in London, was refused entry to the United States on Wednesday. He was scheduled to speak in New York, but the U.S. gatekeepers had other ideas. According to The Guardian, Badawi’s response was remarkably well mannered:

Yesterday, Ted Kennedy . . . ah, you’ll never believe this one no matter how much I explain it. Let’s go to the AP:
This house is crumbling / who'll say the last amen?
The New York Times‘ conservative primatologist David Kirkpatrick makes two questionable assertions in the first paragraph of his report on religious conservatives’ reaction to that abomination known as the Kelo decision. See if you can spot them:

The woodpecker must die!
That was the caption that got morning radio hosts Corey Deitz and Jay Hamilton suspended from the “Corey and Jay Show” in Little Rock, Arkansas. The pair had posted a cartoon on the show’s website. This AP story strongly hints that Clear Channel Communications, owner of the hosts’ station, did not take kindly to the gesture. They were kicked off the air for one day, which led National Review‘s Stanley Kurtz to ask, “Is nature our new religion, then? Or, to put the question in a slightly different way, can a woodpecker be the victim of hate speech?”
Re: London falling
I’m now heading into my day job in Washington, D.C., and a bunch of terrorists have decided to make the commute all the more fun by killing people in London. I hope the culprits don’t give up when the police come knocking, so they can start their stints in hell early. Meanwhile, why do I have a feeling that this story will soon help reinforce the lore about all those Jews who didn’t die at the World Trade Center? Feel free to discuss in my absence.
